help, need advise on cutting a frame

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by surfmobile, May 7, 2010.

  1. Hey everyone, I searched the treads but didn't find anything that could answer my question so here goes..I'm planning on adding a c-section from Gambino Customs on the back end of my 50 Chevy. The question I got is it better to use a sawzall with the proper blade, or an O/A torch to cut out old frame pieces the new section will replace? I already have a real nice sawzall so that would be my first choice if it's do-able, But I will go get an O/A set up if thats what needs to be done. (Plus I know a O/A torch has a ton of uses) I know a lot of cats will say use a plasma cutter but I don't have one, don't want to buy one for one time use (too much$$$), and prefer to do all the work on the car myself rather than pay someone to do it. Advice o' knowledgable ones..por favor.

4 inch cut-off wheel on an electric grinder and steady hand is all you need. A cutting torch is too sloppy and SawsAlls usually don't cut all that straight (or maybe my sawsall skills may be lacking).

A Metabo with a 6" cut off wheel works great and super clean cuts
