Anyone know of a good machine shop that can make me a hard bronze distributor gear for something less that my left one? I need one for my 430 MEL.
I've heard cutting a gear referred to as 'hobbing' a gear. Maybe google that term... I'll ask a buddy of mine here in Seattle area who has a machine shop if he knows anyone. -bill
Check Boston Gear to see if there's a "stock" gear you could use. To get a helical spur gear hobbed will cost LOTS of bread.
Had some extra ware going on ,in a 455 pon years ago,and found that drilling a small hole at the angle that was to gear in oil galley, let a small stream keep dip gear good. Don't know if it would work for you.but somthen like may. The Bat miami Fl
I ***ume this is to use with a steel roller cam... Talk with a shop that does anti-friction and heat coatings for expensive race engines. There may be a suitable surface treatment to allow this use with a normal gear. Chevy used a steel gear with some sort of moly surface treatment on roller cam Corvettes in the eighties.
Hey Beep, A buddy of mine who is a machinist recommended: http://www.powertransmission.com/cgi-bin/newleads.cgi?Gear Hobbing Services Also think TagMan might be on the right track looking at gear vendors to see if there's a blank available that could be cut to length, bored, sleeved or etc. to fit your app. Happy hunting! -bill
