What about using a plate of gl*** on the top? Silicon it in place. Leave the inside full of air.

Gl*** may hold up better during use than plastic. Plasic can scratch easy.

remember some plastics heatup when curing. A block that thick may really heatup. Also check shrink rates when cured.

You could put the stuff between the layers.

Yes, thank you so much. I've been neglectful in my thank you notes lately. Please, please forgive me. If it ever warms up around here I might even be able to wear it. Thanks again bud:D

You bet bud. My floor and cabinet hardware are all due in early next week which means by the end of next weekend (Memorial weekend) I should have everything ****oned up, looking great and ready for photos. You guys are really going to like it.

I purchased used chrome bar stools from this lady that Roadstar found. She is making me the stool tops from red, black and silver metalflake Zodiac material! I can't wait to see them!!

that is a good idea. I'll have to give that some thought.

Some of the memoriblia is thick and will take up the whole 3/4 inch depth so putting the stuff between two layers wouldn't work nor could the gl*** be really thick. I could leave out the few items that are tall and just use flat memoriblia. Decisions, decisions.

Thanks for all the hints guys. Of course you guys will be the first to see how it turns out.

EPOXY fumes are HEAVIER THAN AIR so you want to open the doors to ventilate .
If you have the preferred old "hotrod" Okeefe & Merritt stove shut off the gas.
The low level oven pilot light could be a problem.

I'd mix a bottom layer, and stick the items in it after dipping and saturating them with it. That way you have less chance of hidden bubbles expanding and "boiling" up from uder the items when the EPOXY gets hot from kicking

Then do another layer when that layer has kicked a bit.
3/4" is really thick unless the stuff is formulated for that type of casting.
You might want to test it by mixing up a bathroom size Dixie cup and just letting it go off to see how hot a m*** of it gets.
That much laminating resin would boil.
Do several layers if in doubt.
I usually vacuum the material after mixing but if you don't have a vacuum pot available pouring it slowly in a really fine and continuous stream "stretches" a lot of the bubbles out of it.
Best temperature to do all of this is 74ºƒ.

Thats my work email. I've been off for a bit but I'm going in for an hour or so on Thursday to catch up on emails and do my payroll so I'll get it then.

DrJ, thanks for the info. At this point I'm reconsidering whether this is actually a good idea or if I should just use a piece of gl***. I'm getting a vision in my head of it getting so hot that all my memorabilia goes up in flames and smoke.

That's a "high gloss surface coating" not a casting resin. It wont work for the thickness you want.
Look for a "Casting Resin" formula.
Either Polyester or Epoxy and still layer it, three layers would work best.

There are some water clear Urethanes available but they MUST be vacuumed and ANY moisture in the mix and it will turn into a foam rubber cushion instead of a display.

Good to see you're up and about so soon, after all you need to be good to party for your birthday in four weeks.:D

Not a problem,IF you follow the instructions.
This stuff looks like foam when it's mixed properly.

I had a test piece at Billetproof,
At least 2 layers of co**** Green 'Flake in clear,
with a clear top coat. NO bubbles.

Just finished another piece,2 oz of 'Flake in 4 oz of Clear polymer.
    NO bubbles.

Too bad the digital camera doesn't pick up the reflections from the 'Flake.

  16. The square footage is usually based on 1/4 inch thickness. Like others have said.....stir well, very well or you will end up with soft spots that will never fully harden. The propane torch works great for removing bubbles, just don't become too much of an arsonist on it, it can go the other way real fast. Also, make sure that you have ALL of the cracks sealed up. with the stuff at a consistancy of mal***as, it is amazing how much can leak out of the smallest crack(Creates a real nice mess too). Good Luck
