Well fellow rodders, I need some more help in solving the windshield problem on my 27 Ford Model T Touring rod. The first problem is that there is about a 1/2" difference in the distance between the top windshield frame's legs and the bottom frame's legs. The frame is a Mister Roadster chromed frame (un-chopped and unaltered) from Speedway. I hope the pic shows what I have: The second problem is more of a question. Look at the part numbered T7840H (just under the yellow B) it my first pic. What is it? Is it a rubber or perhaps metal cap to the bottom windshield gl*** or what? I have been unable to identify or source it. Similarly, what is the Part T7840-1-1/4 ? Is it a rubber seal to the cowl? FYI, I have bought the rubber kit that speedway sells and it includes a piece of rubber like the 77840-1-1/4 but for the life of me I cannot see how it is supposed to attach to the bottom of the Mr. Roadster windshield frame. The third problem is that the distance between the windshield post top pivot points and bottom pivot points is significantly different. My unaltered steel windshield posts are reproductions that came from Ecklers. They appear to be bent somewhat. Could someone share their dimensions for C and D when mounted on your cowl?? Aftermarket '26-'27 T windshield parts fit terrible. Nothing is correct size. That's why stock pieces in good shape cost more the repros. The rubber between the gl*** halves is an h shape. The lower is T shaped and slides in a channel that the aftermarket one may not have. Dave
many thanks Dave for that help. I guess I hoped that buying from reputable long term companies would avoid such problems. I suspect that there would also be some considerable variability in the stock fifes bodies themselves. If you have a 26 or 27 t roadster or touring could you share the two width dimensions (at each pivot point) of your windshield? Collegially Michael Dyrenfurth
I bought a Mister Roadster chrome windshield frame, from Speedway, for my '26 years ago when I did away with the chopped windshield. I didn't go with a two piece windshield on mine, instead I had a local gl*** shop cut a one piece. Before... After...
Many thanks for taking the time to respond to my plea for help. In fact, your response caused me to recognize the opportunity of making this a one piece windshield. To that end, how do you hold the top and bottom windshield frames together? I can't see a seam in your pic. Appreciatively, Michael
You already have the necessary pieces, they came with the windshield frame. As shown in the picture, there are 4 aluminum pieces (two for each side), they go inside the frame for the gl***. Instead of using one for the top and one for the bottom of the frame (on each side) I just used one slid half way into the bottom and half way into the top pieces. .
Well, Grumpy, I don't know why I did not think of that? It is just a matter of aligning the piece and tapping the second hole so that both of the wing-bolts have something to thread into - not a problem for us. By the way, why the name Grumpy--you have been so helpful and forthcoming? Here is the long-abuilding rod we are building. A real father, son, grandson project. Many thanks again! Michael
