Hi all, I'm hoping that someone out there can provide a template pattern with dimensions for mount brackets for a rear tube bumper for my '41 Willys coupe. I need them to go under the body rather than through the factory slots, as they were filled in. I've tried making a template out of cardboard, but I'm not doing well with that plan! Thanks for reading my post! Charlie
Not that I have a Willys but someone may want to know if it's a stock frame and if you're using the factory bolt holes .
You just need a few things. 1 tape measure, 1 pencil that leaves a good solid line. one razor knife 1 straight edge a couple of larger Amazon boxes, Something to lay on under the back of the car. Measure, draw a pattern on the non printed side of the now cut open box. Cut out pattern tweak pattern.
Here are some photos showing your idea. Hello, The photos are of a 41 Willys Coupe that had the rear filled in and the bumper bracket custom made. It also had a tube bumper. The bracket is custom made and looks simple to draw. You will have to set up the tube bumper on a box, move it to where you want it and see where the bracket has to be attached. Then, of course you will have to make the one piece bracket for each side. Jnaki This reminds me of when we made a front mounted tow bar for our 1940 SBC 671 powered Willys Coupe. We tried to make it so it would fit under the front bumper already in place. We all had to have everything street legal to qualify for the original Gas Coupe and Sedan classes. (one time I forgot to bring the front bumper and the tech committee put us in the C/Altered class…no stock front bumper. I drove home to get it ) It was a hassle to have that bracket sticking below the bumper. So, we always took off the bumper and made the tow bar mount attach easier to the stock brackets. Then at the dragstrip pit area, I attached the front bumper back in its original stock configuration. Extra work, but worth the effort.
