Hi everyone!! I am doing winter maintenance on my ‘55 and I discovered some problems.. some of them already known for years and some of them are brand new I need to replace all 10 front wheel studs because with the wheels I have they are short.. I need 10 pieces of 7/16x20 wheel studs and the thread needs to be at least 30 mm long. So anyone could help me with that? Here in Italy they are obv unfoundable. And with them I need lug nuts too! 20 of them (I am shopping here…) Another problem in my list I cannot find solutions is; My fuel indicator! Sometimes it reads half tank even if the tank is empty or fully loaded. And sometimes it reads correct. And sometimes is reads empty, even if the tank is full. How do I solve it? pls help a poor guy over the ocean Any helo would be really appreciated! W Hamb!! Danny
Sounds Like bad sender but could be gauge .... Start with Pulling sender & bench check with Oms Meter According to what I read it working oms is resistance range of 0-30 ohms. Dorman online catalog , go to axle / wheel Studs , there will be sizes / measurements Or you can look into ARP studs Moroso studs ect ... use good Quality ones
https://www.dormanproducts.com/hsubsearch.aspx?type=Wheel Hardware&parttype=Wheel Lug Stud Use the Dorman catalog to find longer Studs ,,, in pic below shows the Oem Length & press in hole size .... According to RockAuto front ""Front"" different than ""Rear"", Front OEM size ,first Pic """ REAR """ Below Oem size
I’ll do all of this checks! I’l keep you up to date, thank you!! About studs I think I will buy them on Rockauto.. Dorman ones are good quality ones? thank you a lot guys!!
I’ve got Dorman and nuts studs from RockAuto too. I use the ARP studs on the Vette but be aware they have a radius on the head of the stud that requires machining of the hubs to clear. Both easily obtained in Europe. In my experience your fuel gauge probably needs a new sender. I’ve had that before and it’s been caused by the windings on the resistance coil becoming detached and catching the moving blade.
I’m so cheap. Took one that quit working, plugged up some smog lines. Took a penny and soldered over the hole. Then I removed the factory bulkhead,to discover corrosion between the strap and bulkhead. You might call it something else over there. Notice the type of washers I used to make the repair. Remember there is an isolation washer. Do not let this this ground out to the sender frame. I also added a new grounding bolt, same type washers. Sending units work off ground- NOT positive +. The new cars have hot wires running into the gas tanks, not yours. Don’t freak out because I used RED WIRES. This was used for mock up to test it with the gauge. Works like a dandy now. ADDED GROUND BOLT not shown in this group of photos.
Guys thanks thanks thanks a lot for ALL your so appreciated replies. I’ll try all these tests on my sender, and I’ll let you know how is going
