was hoping to get some help with a problem i have run in too. i have a 1951 chevy styleline deluxe with stock brake system in her. i have own the car for three years now and brakes have always givin me issues. here is my problem did brake job and changed all wheel cylinders and rebuild master cylinder. breaks worked so much better, but as soon as car heats up the brakes feel like they are engaged. for example: I was waiting in line to pick up my daughter from school car heated up from just siting still and the car felt like the brakes had lock up. The car was hard to move, so i put her in low and got home but i can seem to drive very far with out this happening. it didnt do this before,It just would stop for nothing lol. did i make a mistake on the rebuild? any thing i should check? I plan to get rad flushed or maybe pick up new one. i live in florida and she always runs a little warm...thanks in advance for the help..johnny
check the pedal adjustment, needs to have a bit of free play, so the fluid can vent back into the reservoir when it warms up. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1949_53/index.htm also did you replace the rubber hoses? if not, they can get collapsed inside with age and restrict fluid movement
I had a 78 ford p/up the rubber brake hose going to rear axle separated inside when setting in line or at along light the presure on the rear brakes would not return when you lifted your foot off the pedal let it sit and it would bleed back it took for ever to find that one because it was a new line i dont buy cheap brake parts now
thought about something else how close dose the exhaust run to any brake parts hot brake fluid will expand
What kind of tubing does it use to connect the front wheel cylinders? stock was a rubber hose about a foot long at each wheel. And in the rear, there was originally a rubber hose connecting the metal line that goes to the rear wheels, to the metal line from the master cylinder. How much pedal free play is there?
happened in my 53 chevy, i adjusted the pads out to far, they would rub the drums and get hot, expand and then lock up the brakes. adjusted them in and never had the issue again.
not much your right about the front line..sorry. and rear one is new also..maybe my fronts need to be changed..ill try that...thanks guys..johnny
