    It'll never end...

There's too many guys out there that think "patina" is the way it was back when...

    It wasn't...!!!

They all seem to think this is the board (forum) for the patina look...!!!

This reminds me of the epic thread: How Do I Get Herculiner Off of My Hootus?!

It was on the explorer forum in 2000. Basically a guy was painting the bottom side of his truck with Herculiner (think POR15) and decided he needed to take a leak. Then he proceeded to get Herculiner on his "hootus." Hilarity ensued...

Do you all bang your head against your keyboard when the Rolling Bones or Josh Shaw rub the paint out to look old on cars they work on? Probally not. When I saw the Dynamat Dynaliner for the first time, I thought that thing was awesome. All of the Rolling Bones cars are bad ass too. All of them!

I have not seen anyone let loose on any of the above mentioned guys for their patina jobs but this guy asks for tricks to match his new white walls to his old ones and you all let loose on him like he is some idiot for wanting something new to look old. I don't get it.

Very very very thinned out WOOD STAIN, with just a drop of BLACK paint in it will get you where you need want to be.

Maybe this thread should be titled "HELP- How do I make a bunch of assholes speak up?

Cut the dude some slack....who says you have to have to agree? Maybe he likes the look. There are all types of people on this board... do all you guys drive identical Corollas? Nope....I bet you don't. I have to admit, some to the replies made me chuckle though...

Standing by for FNG comments...knock yourself out, I have thick skin.

Has anyone suggested not washing them? Ever?

Mine all turn yellow if I neglect them. I dont care. They clean easy enough if it bothers me.

or take them to a farm and lay em face down in that gathering area outside the barn where it is nothing but mud sh!t and p!ss everywhere...that'll give you a nice yellow-brownish tint after a day or two that you'll never wash out. For reals

You obviously haven't been around here much, on more than one occasion just that has happened. Personally I'm against "fake patina" and for the most part the so called patina in gerneral.

i think its funny how people call rust/surface rust, dirt and shit patina like its really a sought after finish....to me it just a lazy cop out or lack of creativity and skills. it will fade out.....hopefully:confused:

I don't think any body is saying that we all have to agree, but the answer to this guy's dilemma is so bloody obvious that it is ridiculous. Why look for clever, time-consuming ways to make two new tyres look old when they are never going to match the real patina of two tyres he already has when it would be very simple to clean those to match the two new tyres, then let all four age naturally at the same rate by simply not bothering to clean them again. Or is this rocket science? Jesus, this fake patina thing is getting out of hand.

You guys are a trip....granted I understand how silly and played out it is to get something brand new and make it look old.

...but restorers have been doing this for years! Almost every restored Model A I've ever seen has a yellowed edge on the whitewall...and its not because they drive them!

    Paul:

Why do you folks on the other side of the pond spell "tires" wrong? (tyres)

Why don't you spell "Patina" with a Y? "Patyna"

Just thought Iy'd throw a REAL questyon iynto thys thread.

Good luck wyth the wyte walls. BTW, back in the day, a new set of wyte walls looked bright wyte. I don't want to mess with your head or anything, but if you want to be traditional, well whatever...... my head hurts now.

I have absolutely no idea, and if I'd been typing this by hand like I used to I would change it out of respect for this being an American board. But you see I've just discovered a speech recognition program that actually works with my disability and allows me to dictate lengthy replies, instead of wearing out my poor old kripple hand at a snail's pace just to get two sentences down, and when I say the word tyres it comes up with the English spelling, and I really don't think it matters that much that I can be bothered to correct it. As for the spelling of patina, I try and avoid the word as much as possible. God dammit, you made me say again.:D
