  2. Here's where I'm at so far. Left side bank is torn down, all the carbon was cleaned up. View attachment 2046627
I put the head on with no gasket and spun the crank over and you can feel the valves just touching the head. So I'll be doing a little work on the heads to fix that. There is no pitting on the pistons, but there is pitting on the exhaust valve. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1381111028.666643.jpg
Everything was moving free, valves, lifters weren't sticking. Spun the cam around and checked all the lobes on the left bank, and they looked good. I did find a strange mark on one of the lifters. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1381111322.233766.jpg
That was on the intake valve on the rear cylinder. The lifter bores do seem a little oval. I can wiggle the lifter a few thou left to right, but there's no play front to back. They all seem about the same so I'm not sure if they are suppose to be like that.

  4. I cleaned all the carbon up inside the motor. I milled the valve pocket out about .030 for a little more clearance. Put new valves, guides, Isky springs, and a better pcv in it also. It runs better but still makes noise, its a little better tho. The problem is the lifter bores are out of round. Until I can figure out how to fix it I'm just gonna run it as is. Not sure if I could tear it down and ream the bores and make a sleeve and press them in. I've done a lot of searching on the web and haven't found any thing about fixing lifter bores.
