Okay here it goes, the sbc I was originally going to drop into my Desoto isn't going into it anymore thanks to the kid who had it at his house being a spoiled my daddy will pay for my car kid and deciding he wants to be stuck up after being friends for 7 years. So in frantically searching for another transplant I came across an Olds' toronado yesterday. Now I know virtually nothing about toronados, but it had a v-8, so today I pulled it. Now it's sitting in my high school shop class waiting for me to tear into it tomorow morning. Finally, my question is, is there any Rear Wheel Drive trannies for the toronado engine? I believe it's a '81. Any info on the setup or just on the engine itself would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm just young-n-dumb and need your help! Thanx. Almost forgot, I also have a th350, is there any kind of adapter made or that I can make to hook them up? Also forgot to mention it's a 6.0 liter.
Ahhh,c'mon guys n gals, someone has to at least have a good website for me to find information at. I know there is an adapter for the chevy tranny, but I don't know what Olds' tranny I would need. Maybe I'll try to make my own adapter for the TH today. But any good sites on Olds' motors anyone? I looked around for a while last night but couldn't find anything useful. Thanks!
81 Toronado is probably a 307 Olds engine (more like 5.0 liters, not 6.0). That engine uses a std B-O-P bellhousing. So that means any Turbo350 out of a Buick, Olds or Pontiac will bolt up. Or get a 200R4 OD trans, then you get an OD for freeway cruising. All 200R4 trans have the B-O-P pattern and some have both B-O-P and Chevy pattern. If you have the 307 Olds, it is fine as long as you don't expect real big power out of it. If your current Chevy Turbo350 is good, just sell it off and get a trans with the B-O-P pattern. The cost of the adapter is more than just getting the right trans. There is no difference in the internal parts between the Chevy and B-O-P turbo350's, just the bellhousing bolt pattern is different.
81 would be a 5.0 (307) olds engine and rear wheel drive transmissions will work on it. As for a 350th You need to use one out of a olds, buick, pontiac or caddy with a v-8 73-80. Some chevys had a muti fit 350th but are harder than hell to find. Early 80's gm rear wheel cars also had 200th transmission as well as 350th transmissions wich you can tell the difference easy by looking at the pan. Hope this helps.
Why don't you find a MOPAR engine for your car? It'd save you a lot of grief with tranny adapters and you'd be on the road sooner. Maybe Fat Hack has another wheezer V6 you can talk him out of Kidding! About the V6 anyway.
