I should definetly stay away from ebay! Ran across this little devil while browsing last night. Never considered myself a fan of these before but the shape of this one just caught my eye. 1950 chevy on ebay I don't have a clue as to the going rate for one of these, anyone want to hazard a guess? Too high at the buy it now price? How easy does a sbc(or better yet my bbc) and an automatic go into one of these? I can see it lowered a tad, lose some of the chrome around the bumpers, maybe french the headlights, and trash those wheelcovers. Never thought of myself as a mild custom guy but this profile just grabbed me. Anyone real close to Webster, SD that could take a quick look. Like tomorrow!(short notice I know)
The buy it now would be cheap in Los Angeles, if the car was in Los Angeles, but it's in So. Dakota.... (If it was here I'd be buying it instead of typing this, but I dont want it bad enough to go there to get it, or pay to have it shipped.)
What's the problem? Pay T-man to drive it out to the greater L.A. area. Good lookin fleetline. And why is it advertised as a "styleline"? That's the regular 2 door sedan. The pictured fleeetline is swoopier. It'd take about 6 minutes to slip a one-wire GM alternator on that baby and it'd drive anywhere. BUY IT!
Looks pretty good. My Pops has a '50 sedan. Lotta fun to go for a spin. His is the 6 cyl., 3 on-the-tree. Gets up and goes good and easy on the gas mileage to boot. Go for it!!
I'm surprised someone hasn't snagged it yet. I don't think the buy it now price is out of line at all. I really like Fleetlines. I've got a '50 2dr sedan that I'm doing my first custom with. We dropped in a 350/350 and '57 Chevy rearend. Pretty easy to work on. I'd say go for it.
There is another black 50 fleetline on Ebay right now with a newer 235 in it, down in Maryland. If I had the extra cash I'd buy it. Billy
Re-read the ad and this seemed abit wierd for an alledged "no rust " car. "Some one has installed new rocker panels & repaired the 1/4 panels at some time ,they did however weld in new metal. This was not a rust y car the floor panels hve never had any rust . The trunk floor is not rusty, The underside of the trunklid is nice & solid. The bottoms of the doors are solid & very nice. this is a good solid old car " Why would the rocker panels be replaced if no rust? That "new" header sure did surface rust fast. As I said, I know nothing about these cars. Do these have independant front ends?
A-arms and coil springs. I pulled the front coils and took a couple of rounds out of 'em. If I can do this they must be pretty easy to work on.
Nice looking car. If its as good as he says, than the price seems pretty good (at least for my area), although, you never know till you look at it first hand. V8 (big block or small block) swap is not a big deal. You will have to replace the rear end also, 55,56,57 Chevy rear will fit as well as 70-81 Camaro. If you are handy, you can make motor & trannie mounts, or there are places that sell them too. Just REALLY make sure there isnt any rust, that goes for the frame too.
Nice looking in the pic's & not out of line on the price. I'm also surprised that BIN hasn't been hit. Looks like a 216 with the post mount valve cover but could be a 235? The rust spots they mentioned are common. I think what they are trying to say is that it wasn't a rust bucket. The floors and trunk are prone to rust. Hell, mine has it in all those spots and it has been a Ca. & Nv. car all it's life. Email them for a phone # and throw your questions at them. Then if you get it, change those plastic caps...If you don't use the trim in the trunk I might buy some pieces for mine & I'm sure you could sell the 6 if you wanted to go with something else? I put a 235 in mine and beat the piss out of the NV. streets year round
Man, I dunno. Just a good black paint job will set you back $3500. I'd really want to get up close and personal with the car before buying it. But hey, $3500 isn't really a ton of cash to some people so if you're willing to take a chance go for it.
