got a 51 with a 53 motor/trans in it.... about to hook up floor shifter... was a 3 on the tree, box stuck in it... but we have a shifter sitting around... anyone got any diagrams or anything on dropppin this in right?? maybe help with how to shift once its in too/? confuses me, only have shifter, brackets, no idea how to hook up... and im tryin to drive this ****er to the pileup, this is the main thing holding me back!!!... thought mayube someone could save me hours of guessing, LOL.. im sure someone out there has done this a few times.. thanks
the shifter on my three bolted to the back of the trans with an L bracket, linkages went to the bottom side of the forks. hope this helps.
here's a later version (open driveline) of that trans, with a sparkomatic shifter installed on it. The front lever is not right, you want the linkage connection to be above the lever pivot instead of forward or back (here it's too far forward) when in neutral. shift pattern is R 2 N 1 3 Don't try to get it into first until you come to a stop, unless you know the magic secret of double clutching.
Bought the cheesy 3-speed truck floor shifter conversion from Checker. Shifted the ****** good, just sat crooked and the pattern was all ***backwards. It worked though, and wanted to floor shift it. **** I just remembered it was a 55 open drive. Now that I think back, I am not sure one of these shifters will fit a torque tube car (not positive though). Anyways my shift pattern was. 3 1 N 2 R Geno
HEre are some instructions, dunno if you have the same shifter. Maybe this will help? http://chevy.tocmp.com/miscellaneous/floorshifter1.htm
I bought a hurst indy 3 speed shifter to use in my 65 galaxie and it has the arms to work on your type of trans,if you can get a shifter, rods and brackets you can have the arms and instructions from my shifter kit. Jeff
