Help!!! I am putting a 305 chevy motor into my 1948 Chevy Fleetline and I'm having a problem with the drivers side. The stering colum is in the way so what can i use any infowould he thankful....
I just dropped a 283 in my 50 Styleline, and while I know that 49 is the same, I'm not sure about 48....I think it might actually be the same. Anyway, I have the same problem, thought that block huggers would work....nope. You either need something like the Sanderson headers $$$$, or a rear dump manifold for the driver's side. I had already bought the hugger headers from Summit, but just returned them today....getting manifolds in about a week. If yours IS the same as mine, you can get 77 Nova, 81-86 El Camino/Monte Carlo/Truck manifolds, and a host of others. It's all a matter of how pretty or ugly you want it to be, as a lot of them have the holes in them for the air tubes.
48 and 49 are different cars. Need pictures, or at very least more info about what's in the car...stock steering? what mounts? what else has been done to it?
With the exhaust all but laying on the steering box , did you consider how the all that heat will effect the oil and the gaskets in the steering box ? That just seems to be way to close to the steering box . Wouldn't a "LOG" style header with a rear or front dump be a better choice ? How about fender well headers ? You can get a kit in Jegs & Summit to make header to fit your needs with the kind of set up you have . Maybe something to consider ? RetroJim
if you want "close to the steering box" look at a 55-7 chevy with a big block. Steering boxes are amazingly resilient if you keep lube in them
I have run this manifold on two different cars a 39 and a 40 for over 60,000 miles combined with no heat problems. Just my experience.
Well thanks for all the info now its time to find some different types of manifolds that i can try up here in new york is not that easy but someone told me some ram type manifolds might work again thanks for the input.
