I have a gm metric 200 automatic transmission with overdrive that I had pulled from an 86 Chevy El Camino and installed into my 53 chevy coupe. Here's the problem: When I put the car into gear (reverse or drive), the engine lugs significantly (to the point that the engine quits if the idle is not turned up. Someone has mentioned that my Overdrive lock out may be malfunctioning. Is this a possibility? What does that mean? There was a wiring loom that plugged into the driver side of the tranny body that I did not utilize once it was installed into the 53'. Please help if anyone has had this problem before. Thanks.
Is the "lockup" hooked up? The solenoid could be bad, which could cause it to lockup in lower gears. I had that problem with my 200-4R in my '53. I just unhooked lockup and haven't had a problem since. By the way, how'd you adjust the TV cable?

Thanks, but how do you unhook the lock-up? I'm not even sure how this system works. Do I need the lock up system? I have no wires currently plugged into the side of the tranny where there is a plug. What is a TV cable?

Is it worth the effort to locate a kit for the Metric 200 or will I be alright if I simply un-hook it?
