Hi guys, hopefully someone can help me here, i have copied this that my friend has put on the NSRA site here in the U.K. to try and help me sort my problem out, ...........

    Hi all,
I`m really struggling to get my head round this one, will try and explain
again as I dont think this is a shroud issue,
TOADS engine a 302 ho engine (1987) now the engine came complete with smog
control, A/C, power steering pump all fitted to the engine all of which we
junked, heres my problem (baring in mind this reverse water pump change
over) the only pulley we have that fits the water pump is ribbed/toothed
which tells me the belt runs as normal (not reversed) I did find an article
that states that during the change over to reverse pump they did make a
serpentine belted normal run water pump, TOAD did keep the old belts and it
does look like the belt is shiney on the back of the belt so it would seem
that it did run on the back of the belt which would suggest the reverse pump
BUT! why do I have a pulley that is toothed/ribbed??
this is not TOADS engine but basically how he got it
    [IMG]
And this is the pulley on the pump at the moment, you can just make out the
grooves on the pulley if you enlarge the pic,

PLEASE HELP! it is starting to do me nut in the words of Holmsey lol,

very many thanks guys.......toady........(but thanks to cabby for trying to help me sort this issue out and for the engine transplant.

  2. Not sure of your question. You'll find that the grooved part of the belt will always run on the grooved part of the pulley. The slick part of the pulley rides the back side of the pulley. Hope that helps??

Who knows what someone may or may not have changed. If you need to run the grooved pulley obtain a new pump designed for normal rotation. You are going to end up pulling the pump on there now anyway to find out what it is.
