Hi all, could someone please help me on how to get the floor shifter shaft out of the truck 4 speed in my 59 apache. I want to pull the motor and tranny out as one unit.i do see a pin on each side but they will no pull out and also if I rotate one the other does not move WTH? Not sure why pics are not uploading. Thanks rich
Many of those 2 pin deals....you press down straight, real hard on the center part of the ball shaped part, while twisting it. Those pins work like an older taillight bulb; push in-twist, and out it comes. Don't know about your trans, but try it
Ok, man I put all of my weight into it and tried that and nothing. I can pull it up but it is all I can do to do that and tried to turn it either way and still nothing. Thank u for the pointers, if u come across any other ideas please let me know. Again thank u
Sometimes they get sticky and you need to use a big cresent wrench to push down on the dome shaped part. After you push down rotate it to the left. Use some WD-40 on it.
The guys posting above have it right. I like to use my BIG channel lock pliers, the pair with about 24" long handles. The jaw teeth will bite into the 'dome piece' to rotate it as you lean down into it to depress the sping. Looking down, it should turn CCW to remove. Older ones were easier, they threaded on. AHA ! The pic above shows it all so plain.
All I can say is that ALL OF U ARE GREAT! And I LOVE THE H.A.M.B!. another words IT WORKED! thanks again to all of you for your help. I will be posting pics of the fleetside L/B project thanks rich
Just in case someone else runs across this, what worked for me was WD-40 and big channel locks pushing down and turning CCW. Rich
