My Son-In-Law in Fredericksburg, VA just inherited a 1929 Model A Ford pickup and it needs a frt. spring perch replaced. If we removed the frt axle does anyone know someone in the Fredericksburg area we could bring it to who could heat the axle and remove the old perch? We tried the AACA forum and got diddly squat for a response so I thought I'd ask here where I'm sure there are multiple people who have had this problem. Thanks for any help or advice you can give us.

Dennis, there are four Model A Ford Club's located in the Virginia area. Colonial MAFC, located in Williamsburg, Old Dominion MAFC, located in Richmond, George Washington, located in McLean and the Skyline MAFC Chapter, located in Staunton. I would suggest Googling them and getting their contact info. I'm sure they would love to have a "garage night" at your location and offer help.

Dennis, I would start soaking the spring perch with penetrating oil. Sometimes those spring perches can be a real pain and might need heat or a press to get them out. Remember they have been in the axle for almost 95 years and getting wet and rusting in place.

  4. Is there a truck spring shop i the area? I started using a truck spring shop after abusing my hands too much. Quick work, low price. 20 minutes, $ 20.00 to remove 2 spring perches

Try Spring Menders, Inc. or All-American Diesel.

Thank you all for your time to respond and suggestions on how to deal with this problem. Much more helpful than our reception at the AACA forum. I can see now why Hot Rodding is so popular.
