My nephew was given a 1961 Ford Galaxy Starliner, 2 door, no post. good body and gl***, no interior. The car was last registered in 1974 and still has the black and orange plates on it. It has a big V8 (352??) and an automatic, but I'm told it was originally a three on the tree. He is considering using it as a destruction derby car as that is big entertainment in Norcal (McArthur) where he lives. If I can make a reasonable (??) offer and/or find a replacement for the derby I may be able to save it. What would be a reasonable offer? Any information about this model of car would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure it is worth saving.
I would offer not to kick the living **** out of him for it, and find him a big late 70's wagon to smash. If he's just going to smash it, I think a bigger car for the demo derby in a straight up trade would be a good deal, or offer him $750 cash. I know in Cali you get $500 to turn them into the state, so it's going to have to be more than that. DON'T let that car get smashed! What a waste that would be.
Find him a running replacement, There's a '74 4 door Lesabre at a turky lot here in LB they want $1500.. it would do. Tell him he's going to trade you or you are going to ***** slap him every time you see him from now on until one of you dies, if he demolises that car. (The Buick is at a lot on Redondo just north of PCH. across from the Moto Guzzi shop.)
Too bad Cali is the land of expensive beaters. A friend of mine sold his running '78 Grand Safari wagon to a demo guy a couple days ago, complete with "metallic pea" green paint and fake wood. Cost the guy $225 and a set of wheels I'm buying for $75, and the guy really had to think if he was willing to go that high.
Do what ever it takes to save that car, if its anything at all, its well worth the effort. These cars were only built two years, 60-61. I think the production numbers were lower in 61 than 60, not sure on that.I dont think many of these cars were saved, they were kinda a love it or hate it car, but the styling has stood the test of time, and now they are back. The roofline on these cars are killer, and they make a really nice car. Here is a partial view of mine, with my T. Ive really enjoyed building and driving it. Please do not let him demo that car!
There's a premium on this car... paints good runs good...needs threads inside, and '74 and older no longer needs to be smogged in CA and that's worth money and the lack of agrivation right there.. I'd buy this car to drive if it was a two door!
If anyone here saves it and needs a parts car, I know of one in a private yard north of Seattle. No motor, no trans no front grill, but the rest is there and straight as I recall.
The "beaters" dont cost too much, but $200 or less for a derby car is average. I see alot of good derby car material go to the wrecker each week. The price of s**** dictates the lowest price, but they can be had for a few 100. Maybe $300 at the most. Someone needs to rescue this car. Even if its a rusty turd it has enough on it to be worth that. He should, or you could post some pics, I'm sure someone would buy it. I would if it was in So Cal... If its better than "rusty turd" I still might.
YOU HAVE TO SAVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!! ....... hell if i had room i would try to save it ..... i think that car would have had a cruise-o-matic .... not a manual trans ...... man i absolutely love those cars ..... i say double what it will cost him to get a good derby car ..... mid 70s full size 4dr car ... and you will STILL be ahead .and so will he ... then get t- bird interior and do a 60s mild custom .....man i am all worked up now ..... keep us updated .......
If it'll help, show him the one in my photo section: http://AngelOnEarth.net/photo.html It's one I helped restore a few years ago. ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver" America - made in China! :-(
do your best to get it off of him whatever way you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if that dont work, tell the a-hole that he could export sumpthin like that to australia for (at least) $20,000 and he could buy as many jap hatch backs to smash as he wants!!!!!!! dont give in... its your duty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stop him at all costs - do whatever you have to do, even if it involves the internet & cameras! The Starliners are the best looking Galaxies & the 61 is the prettier of the two (even though the 60 gets all the press) IMNSHO! They're also bringing big bux these days since they were only made for 2 yrs & are now rather desireable. SAVE IT!!
its a shame that someone could have thier head that far up thier **** to not realize that this car is NOT a derby car. Maybe someone should strap him to the hood of a wagon and go derby it....or maybe...wire remote controls to all of the derby cars and strap the drivers to the hoods and go smash'em up.
I would also kick your sibling's *** for raising a dumb***. Seriously though, DO NOT let it become a derby car, AT ALL COSTS! ****, I would give you $500 for it sight unseen, if I lived in Cali. Go get 'em Donnie!
NOOOOOOO! That IMHO has to be one of the best looking cars of the 60's. How much does he want to not **** it up. Holy Christ all those 70's ****ing beasts out there to tear up and he wants to Demo a Starliner. WTF is next. DRew
A quick search on Traderonline netted 5 nationwide, ranging in price from $27000 to $38,000. From what I could tell none of them were what I would call show quality, except maybe the one for $38k. Yeah, that's a car you want to take to a demo derby Kinda like burning money to start a fire because you didn't pay the heat bill.
the thing doesn't have to be registered to be in the derby. just go to a tow yard and find some beat whale and trade him.
ok first u should kick his *** just for even thinking of doing that, next u have to replace it with a 70's turd, y do all of the good cars go to bad people!!!!
