maybe try the condenser, they can cause all kinds of problems that make you chase your tail.

  6. Pull the T/C and check it. Highly doughtfull it jumped timing. Maybe the balancer slipped

Check if the plate in the distributor that holds the points is wiggling around, my old galaxie did that right after I bought. Acted really wierd, stalling, loss of power then normal and then back and forth. Had to switch out the distributor.

Hey Alex! Notch just called me and told me.
My Truck (the Tiki Bar special) should be out of the body shop tomorrow.
He has my number and he'll pass it on to you.
You know I'm there if you need help.

  15. Also, make sure the vacume advance is working. If not, no power.

I got a Duramax but no trailer and I'm leaving Sat. A.M. If I can help let me know. I was gonna take one of the more fuel friendly rigs, but If You need me to tow it, I'll do it.

Pull the cap off the distributor. Put a breaker bar / socket on the crank snout bolt. Turn right until rotor starts to move. Note where rotor is. Mark balancer at timing tab. Back crank bolt until rotor starts to move other way. Mark balancer at timing tab. That'll tell if you have sloppy timing chain.

Alex. Check and see if the points plate in the distributor is loose like someone earlier had said. Also check and make sure that the points are actually adjusted correct and make sure that they are very tight. I had a set keep coming loose on me when I had my galaxie and it would lose power then eventually not start. or just run like asshole. Does it have an Electronic Ign????

If you want to call me and maybee talk about the symptoms i can try to help. I do this shit for a living so maybee i can be of some help. I am in San Jose at work. but have to go home to Santa Cruz tonight.

it has a petronx in it

  20. I swear by Pertronix but this week I was Swearing at it. I installed a New unit and it was put together Wrong. It created a Rotor Phase problem that nothing could fix. I changed the complete dist to one I knew worked and problem went away. It acted like crossed plug wires and really had me chasing my Tail. Even checked to see If I had wiped out a Camshaft. It was the Pertronix all along. Something to check out for sure.

    yes thats what funny

  26. those pertronix are kinda sensitive to coils too, if you dont run the matching coil it could affect the performance, or fry the pertronix too. put some points in it just to see if thats the problem or not. wouldnt take that long.

  27. A compression test or a Vaccumm gauge will tell if the Timing Chain slipped. You should also be able to take the Fuel pump off the Ford motor and get your finger to the Chain. Lots easier than tearing it all apart for nothing.

put the old distributor back in?

  29. Does it crank, and if so, do the rocker arms move? Can you see without taking the valve cover off? I'm betting it's an ignition/coil issue.

HAS THIS CAR BEEN SITTING FOR AWHILE & NOT STARTED ???

This may sound funny & a bit stupid.... But its for real !!

Happens on my Flatbed about every 3 mos & when we bought my daughters '55 Ford from a guy who didnt drive it much... We drove it and it ran O.K. it had real low power.

CHECK THE RUBBER FUEL LINE BEFORE THE FUEL PUMP & AT THE TANK !!!

The new gas has so much weird shit in it the rubber will dry up & split causing an AIR leak upon suction.. Wont leak Fuel, but WILL suck AIR !

Worth a shot & you would feel like shit if the car didnt go cus of somthing so simple
