I was messing with the car yesterday ('47 D-24)and dam I striped the carb bowl. Was putting on a fuel pump I found on the extra frame I have It is a 6v pump, but when I hook up a resistor to the 12v batt the pump does not work. I am getting 12v in and 6v out the other side but pump will not work. I hook the 12v to it and it pumps away? Not sure what happen I did hook straight 12 to see if it works at first then got the reducer because it does say 6v. Now only works on 12? As I unscrewed the nut that goes into the carb bowl (the one the fuel line screws into) Noticed it has a needle in it. I have another carb off the other flattie and it does not have one? does the carb need it? Anyway as I screw the nut back onto the carb bowl it strips out! Looked at the other carb and the threads are not messed up yet but look funky. Can I helicoil the bowl then screw everything back together and it not leak? Someone suggested putting JB weld on it and putting back together, but that would be last resort. So will the helicoil work, and do I need to put the needle into other bowl(where fuel line screws in) if I use that one? The other carb is different.

When you are on 100 micro gram Morphine patches and drink a beer spelling goes all to hell.:D The reducer or bushing with the needle in it that screws in to the carb bowl striped out the hole ( female end) This is the piece that the fuel line goes into then in to the carb. bowl.

They used to sell self-tapping carb inlet fittings for fixing stripped bowl threads. Check with the guys at your local NAPA.

So, morphine head, is this a Stromberg or a holley carb? I can help you if I were to know what your fooling with.

download Fire fox browser. It has a built in spell check. That should fix your problem.

Did use the spell check! The one on Yahoo is not the best. I guess they have people like me doing the programs:eek: If you would read the post it does ask a few questions, but I think other than the spelling it was easy to follow. I will get those pics of the 6v bowl to you just go and wait by your mail box, should be there shortly.:D
The carb is a Ball & Ball made by Carter. I will check with NAPA see what they can do. As for sharing no problem just pay for the box. Oh they are $750 for box of five( no Joke) I go through 3 boxes a month just to walk with little pain.

Pics didn't arrive today and I'm tired from standing by the mail box all day. Postman said it could take a day or two to get to this part of the world ;)

Good news is I think you got the help you were after...well most of it. You might still need a little more help

mechanic shop I used to deal with allot used jb weld in the carbs that were "stripped out" Maybe not the best solution out there, but it does work.

You might consult a radiator shop or a machinist.

  14. I've got Firefox and I don't see a spell checker. Where is it? I always just check 'em in Word .. Is sort of a pain but keeps me from lookin' stupid.

'Striped' is a word. Spellcheck won't help in this instance. It is the usage that is incorrect.

  16. Careful use of JB Weld will do the trick..CAREful being the operative word...

I think I need some of that Morefeen. You guys are funny. Replace the carb body, don't fix it. You'll always wonder if it's going to leak.
