I have a 2dr sedan that someone before me has shaved the door handles off. I've tried to undo it , but how it was done is irreversable.

My question is this, is the dimension from the handle and lock cylinder to the rear edge of the door the same between a 2dr and 4dr? I have a doner 4dr I was thinking off cutting that section all the way back to the edge or should I just cut out the section for the handle and lock cylinder and leave the factory edge alone? Or any other suggestions?

should be the same, they use the same latch and handle, the latch is what determines where the handle has to be.

I agree with Squirrel, I'd tend to stay away from the door edge if possible.

If you don't use the door edge, just make sure to measure well

I believe there is also some re-enforcement on the backsides of those handles that you may have to work with or add if it's been removed. Why not just buy some new door skins? Danchuk sells them and it may be way less h***le to just get some fresh metal to work with. It appears your trim piece is low enough so it doesn't necessarily matter where the lock cylinder goes. Call them up and tell them what you've got and I'm sure they can point you in the right direction, just a thought...

The problem I had on the other side was mainly the lock cylinder hole, it's round but has a square shape in the middle to keep the lock cylinder from turning. Maybe it would be easier to copy that pattern onto a small piece than weld that in place of where I messed it up instead of cutting a door up? They welded a piece from behind and also welded from the front. When I tried to take the piece of it ruined the lock cylinder hole.

Hindsight, I should have been more careful and should have drilled it out and than filed for the cylinder to fit. I only messed up the one side for now anyway.

I had to repair a set of doors on a '66 Cutl*** once that were filled in the same way, trying to work with what was there was a nightmare.

If I had access to an extra junk door like you have I'd cut that whole area out and weld it into the other door. I personally would use the edge piece too to make sure your holes are properly spaced from the door gap, but you could do it without.

No way would I go through all the trouble of reskinning a door to get the handle holes back, seems to me that the handle and lock cylinder holes on the replacement skins are rarely where they should be anyway.
