Help -What "Thin" Mechanical Fan & Shroud

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fordstandard, May 28, 2013.

  1. For tight space - and Mechanical Vs Elec Fan

    * What have you guys used in way of a Mechanical Fan with shroud in tight space ?

    * Is there a " Thin Fan" for the application.

(I read so much about not using Elec Fan and going with Mechanical & Shroud that I'm really considering going that route!)

This is one of those things that everyone has an opinion about. I always use a shroud no matter what. I also tend to go with a duel electric fan setup.

To keep with vintage theme I ran a SBC 400 with mechanical fan and no shroud. The only trouble I had is in 95+ degree weather, standing still it would run a little hot. No parades or long lines for car show entry photo ops.

  4. I use a 6 blade non flex fan from Summit,,no shroud on all 3 of my hot rods,,2 SBC & a SBF,,never any overheating problems. HRP

On my AV8, I used a Mr. Gasket fan which only had the bends on the trailing (rear) edges of the blades as opposed to most fans which have the bends on both edges. Had to trim an inch off the ends of each blade to fit the rad but it definitely filled the bill! Regards, Dave.
