My car currently runs an early 6v generator which has been converted to 12 volts, this unfortunately has a paltry output and it would appear is unable to supply even enough power to power the ignition. Now it may be that the control box may be at fault. Before I go through the whole thing, I have a question. Is there an original 12volt generator that Is a direct replacement for the one I have now? If so what year and model would that be from? I do have a Powergen alternator but I would rather stay with an original style generator. Any help is appreciated.
I used on from a late '50 to early '60 Ford pick-up, had to drill a hole for it to mount on the stock 8ba generator mount but other than that is was a direct bolt on with a wide belt pulley. That may not work for you because I just noticed your fan is mounted to the generator.
If you haven't done so already, go here http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=4 and post the same. Jack E/NJ
try this... //www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58743&highlight=generator+conversion Some thing is wrong if your converted generator won't put out enough to charge the battery.
I have a 6to 12 Volt converted generator, it gives out 30 amp Max. And works great with all lights on. all the time. Take it to a generator shop to have it cheched out. Had a Bosch 12 Volt flathead generator, there i had do chose lignition and lights or ignition or heater. It gave only 130Vatt (10Amps). So 30 amp is OK.
