Does anybody know the trade number for the aircraft landing lamps? The 5 3/4" diameter ones that fit in place of the high beams on a 4 lamp system, I think the trade number is 4537 but not sure, it replaces a 4001 high beam, more or less a direct fit with some slight mods to the buckets. The ones I want have flat lenses, a half moon deflector inside, and two screw terminals on the back. All the photos of the 4357 I see online have a convex lens. Auto parts stores are not much help either. We used to install these in our cars in the late 60's for a "little" more light at night. I want a set for my o/t 67 Pontiac to make it more like my cars back then. Any help is appreciated.
Get conversion lenses and put Silver star ultra in there rather than blinding someone driving. Automotive parts store won't be of help BECAUSE THIER PLANE LANDING LIGHTS AND ILLEGAL!!
I'm not sure if this will help, but here's a link: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/el/landinglights_zlamps.html Part way down that page is this which may be of particular interest: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/martek4537.php If that doesn't do it for you, poke around on the links on that first page a little more or try this Google search. Personally, I'd just use commonly available halogen bulbs rather than the regular incandescents.
shmoozo, Thanks, I'll look through this. gwarren007, the landing lights were illegal back then too. They are for appearance use only. Kind of like the dated T-3's in my car that came out of my late friend's 66 Impala that was totalled in '69. The front clip came off, the clip sat behind a friend's barn until I installed them in '95. They have been used for maybe a half hour in 12k of driving this car since. If I ever got that serious about driving this car at night I would do the conversion that was in Rod & Custom or Street Rodder of making a set of haolgen headlamps using original T-3 lenses. But until I lose the 12 hour days I don't see that happening.
