My 51 Buick was missing the carb when I got it. I've been researching online and have found two carbs that came on this year size Buick. A Stromberg Aerotype 2-Barrel Carburetor Carb 7-88 AAUVB-267, and a Carter WCD 725-SA. I know that the carb needs to have the electrical for the starter but is there any difference between a standard and a dynaflow? Any opinions on which is the better carb? first photos is the Stromberg and the 2nd is the Carter.
Actually, there were 4 different carburetors used by Buick on the series 40 and 50 models: Carter 725s (early production) Carter 882s (mid-year introduction) Stromberg 7-88 (early production) Stromberg 7-90 (mid-year introduction) As to quality: While I no longer restore carburetors, had I done one of each and given each to your mechanic, and he/she installed one and locked the hood so you didn't know which one, have you drive for a 1000 miles, then return and he/she installed the other one for another 1000 miles; you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Different folks may give you different answers, based on one they had; but both of the carburetor styles are excellent. There is probably a 1 percent or so improvement if using the mid-year carbs over the early production, but not enough to justify a large difference in investment. We used to offer a 1-year unlimited mileage warranty on either one. Jon
