I bought a Corvair motor that was modified to run in a VW trike. It was originally a 180 HP Turbo motor but had a Carter WCFB 4v carb installed during the swap. The tag reads 2972 and 3769S . Anybody know what this came on or fits ? TIA
3769S indicates it’s a 57-61 Chevrolet. Linkage does not have the rubber bushing style of later carbs but definitely Chevrolet.
There is a good (and a little more detailed) description in this thread : https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/any-carter-carb-experts.321359/. If you don't already know it, Jon @carbking really knows his stuff.
That is a service replacement carb for a 55 Chev 265. It is the only Chevrolet WCFB that has the cast riser on the base for a bellcrank. It is rated at approx 337 cfm, it is a good little carb for a small c.i. engine.
Any working WCFB is a rare piece these days. I've got several cores on the shelf, but lack the inclination to rebuild them and deal with the shipping. jack vines
Every part Chevrolet made from 1953 through 1967 is an ultra-rare Corvette piece Just ask all of the Ebay vendors Saltracer nailed the answer; service replacement for the 1955 265 CID only. Jon.
I recall reading an article in a magazine years ago that suggested this carburetor for modified Corvair engines. I believe that Carter released it as a 265 service unit in the mid 1960s.
WCFB’s are to be used….best in pairs on any engine. These 2 were being used when a 265 was still on the drawing board just not on this engine.
