Hi all I need some help trying to Identify a 12 Bolt Posi rear end. I have found casting numbers but can't find/ don't know where to look, for any other numbers. Any help or direction would be appreciated. I am selling this rear end and have an interested party, I am trying to find out more info. Thanks in advance,

Post a picture or two of it here.

Look on the axle tubes, along the top surface, or the front or rear surface, within a foot of the inner end of the tubes, for a stamped number sequence. post that sequence. Might take some work to find it.

Might also be a good idea to turn the pinion and count how many turns it takes to turn both axles one turn each (or one axle two turns, if it's not posi). This will tell you what the ratio is, ie if it turns 3-3/4 turns it's a 3.73 rearend.

Remembering to lock the axle your NOT turning so that you don't throw off the count! ;)

I need to identify a 12 bolt housing that I am building. I believe that it is an A body housing. It has a series 1 carrier w/2:73 gears. It is stamped w/B280, which I believe means that it was produced on Feb 28, 1970?? The other 3's are; GM53, 12845, 3969278NF, CKO o226B1, 67880, and it measures 60 1/2 " from the wheel mounting axle surface to the wheel mounting axle surface. It is an open carrier, ie; non posi. I am also looking for a series 3 posi carrier ( for 3:42 gear set ) and for a series 4 posi carrier ( for 4:10/4:11 gear set ).

Thanks, in advance for any information that may be of help,

    LW
