I recently purchased a 1936 Ford pickup that had a engine fire. I got it in the shop and pulled it apart. It has a 64 283 that we are going back through and using with a 3 speed transmission that was also with the truck. My questions are really about the frame, suspension and brake parts. I'm thinking this frame is from a 39 or newer model due to it having a sway or stabilizer bar that looks correct in the front and also the pedals and master cylinder fit the frame with no modifications that I can see. If you get a chance please look at these pictures and tell me what you think I have as far as brakes, rear end and such. Thanks for your time
The clutch actuator is from a 1940 or later. It does not use the '39 or earlier style pedals, which have an arm at the transmission bell housing.
So is it safe to say that the frame, suspension, and drive line parts are from a 1940 car/pickup or 1941 pickup? Sent from my Pixel using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
'40 Deluxe car had sway bars, don't think '40 Standard did, and I know the '40-'41 pickup didn't. You have a '37 or later shift tower on the trans. '36 was last year that the parking brake ratchet and handle bolted to the trans; '37 and later was under the dash. Somebody made the angle iron bracket to mount the '36 parking brake handle. The trans mount and driveshaft coupling is '37 and later style, totally different from '36. The serial number on the frame will tell you the model year. I think it's safe to say that your truck is sitting on a '40 Ford Deluxe frame.
Thanks for that info! It actually makes sense since the VIN on the title is 7 digits and starts with 550 which would make it a 1940. I asked the previous owner where that number came from and he told me when he registered it in California the only numbers they could find we're the ones that were on the motor that was in the truck at that time.
