Yeah, another help ID something thread, BUT I would really appreciate some info on the guages shown. I'm helping an 80+ year old neighbor to hopefully finish his project, and need a couple of matching guages to the ones shown. All I know for sure is that they were made before 1937. As you can see on the tach, it says AC, I didn't know they ever made guages, anyway, ever seen any of these and the biggest of all questions.....where could I find two matching temp guages Thanx in advance for any info you can provide.
Open your HEMMINGS MOTOR NEWS (ain't got one? get one!) to 'miscellaneous parts' section - there are vendors that specialize in gauges/instruments, or you may find some in other listings within same section. Alternatively, with same HMN in hand, turn to events/swap meets and find YOUR state, see what's going on next and nearby. Many old goats drag boxes of this jetsam and flotsam to the meets and you'll just have to check each box - suggest you either bring the originals with, or take all measurements and record each and every number, letter, stamp or other identifying mark. Some of those (we?) aforementioned goats are pretty savvy on identifying older parts. AC may not have been 'brand-specific' back in the 30s - I've seen AC gauges on old fork lifts, stationary engines... best of luck in your quest dj
AC was (is?) a division of General Motors, but I believe they made gages for others, too. Seeing the tach only goes to 4k, I'm thinking it was made for a boat application. Can't think of any pre-60's production cars that came with tachs. Come to think of it, I'm not sure when tachs were developed.....I'll have to look that up. The oil pressure gage is for a fairly high pressure (60psi) system. I would think 50's vintage? It doesn't look like it was originally used with the tach. Just my 2¢
I have the matching ampere gauge for the oil gauge, ink stamped on the back in yellow is part number 857588. No idea of the source. Sorry, not for sale.
