Help with model A decklid handle- see pics

Is there supposed to be a pin here? The opposite side has one and there is a hole on the opposite side. Speedway (where I got it from) says no- but the br*** collar is really loose and sloppy......
It is a vintique brand. Any body have one they could look at for me???

Are you talking about the collar around the shaft up under the escutcheon(mounting plate)?
If so, yes, the pin should have gone all the way through the shaft and out to support/retain the flanged collar correctly. This is probably a production error which the Chinese manufacturer is either unaware of (and Vintique as well) OR a deliberate way the Chinese have taken to save $.003 cents on the production of each and every handle to increase(?) profits.

Call Vintique and see what they say.

I believe, if you put the key in and turn it that pin will move in or out. I think that pin is what locks the handle in the notches in the latch ***y.

 

There is a square cut pin that you can't see in the pics that does that....

 

Wasn't sure, I haven't looked at mine in about a year. I have a 30 coupe, full fender, top half of the hood, 32 shell and grill,64 289, 85 P/U OD 4-speed, 46 p/U rear end. I've had the thing for 36 years. Finally got it on the road last summer.

 

I checked some handles in the shop and the pin that you are inquiring about goes thru to the other side. I think this pin is used in the cast handle portion to keep the square shaft from pulling out of the diecast part, if you overtighten the handle nut. The lack of the pin going thru should have no real bearing on the operation of the latch handle. Just don't tighten the nut up with a 1/2" breaker bar and socket.
