Is it an Edelbrock carb ?? You said it is a 600 but not what brand. If it is an Eddy, there are some emulsion tubes that can get clogged from dirt and it has some very small holes that cant tolerate and dirt at all. Items 32 and 40 both have these tubes.... remove carb top and pull these out, blow out the wells in the carb and make sure the holes in the tubes are clear. #32 is the primary side and is probably where the problem is. Not to sound like the bad guy, but if you are having to ask what is in a rebuild kit, maybe you should find someone to rebuild it for you. There are a lot of adjustments to be made, making sute the floats are aligned properly etc. If you aren't familiar with any of that... you can create bigger problems. If this ran fine in the other car and doesn't now.... I think the fuel system is heading in the right direction. If the 53 sat for some time you probably filled the whole system with trash.
a quick up date. I byp***ed the fuel tank using a gas can. as with previous attempts, it started right up and then a few second later it started to run rough (as if choking for fuel). it would only run by adding more pedal. (exhaust never got hot enough to burn, so the motor was still cold) So I do not think its the tank. I just took the carb off again and opened it up. found some more dirt inside that must have come from hidden areas. I will take it apart and fully clean it out. grey beard, thanks for the diagram and info. that will help (it only the second time I have taken a carb apart, the first was last week when I took the top of this carb to clean.)
Problem ID'd and fixed. Took the carb apart once more time digging deeper into it (now that I know it had internal filters. The carb filter below the second float was clogged full. The first (nearest inlet) was clean. Decided to pull it all apart and clean all the holes. found some additional dirt but nothing like the clogged filter. Put it back together and just took it on a 6 mile drive. No issues. Tomorrow I will take it alittle further until I gain its trusts again Thanks for all the input along the way.
Still goes back to the fuel tank that is in the car..... that dirt is getting in the carb from somewhere !
yep, a new tank is being built (its a modified 55 wagon unit). Once it is finished I will install it and all new fuel line to be safe. until then two filers (one between tank and pump and one between pump and carb) will have to work to keep it clean.
