I've got my little Model A somewhat driving now.... and for referance the rear end is a 47 ford banjo, and all of the brakes, hubs and spindles are 47 as well.

I have dennis carpenter reproduction drums on the front... do they need to be pressed onto the hubs somehow? My impression was that they just sit over the hubs like a normal car and the tightening of the wheel holds it in place....

And my second dilema is the back. I ruined the original drums when I took them off because I didn't know any better... but I got some 40 ford front drums that I was told were interchangable. So I opened up the hole in the center so the hub could sit outside the drum, and just held it on with the lug nuts.

Now when I went to tighten the castle nuts on the outside, the drum rubs up against the backing plate... Is the backspacing different on rear drums as compared to front drums? Where can I buy new rear drums?

    Thanks a ton guys.

    Johnny.

I don't think the front hubs NEED to be pressed into the drum. I think the wheel being bolted on should hold it together, and it probably will be stuck together next time it's apart.

As for the back, I don't think you should have opened the hole so the hub would fit in the other side. I think if you use the 40 drum with the hub inside it would have been fine.

you can get them at Joblot. I'll send you their article as to the differences and the price list. I think they are the best price around.

Dave Wilton at MT car products does an excelant job of resizing the "new" drums and fits new studs in place that work well. If I recall it was not too expensive if you had the drums and hubs.
