Love it, funny how an old truck like that can be twenty different colors with rust and bald tires and still look cool as hell. If my 85 looked like that it would be hauled to the scrap yard by know (if it wasnt mine that is).

  3. Cool truck. At this point though.... I'd prime it.

You've already painted the bumpers, grille, headlight bezels, wheels, and are going to paint the interior. The "patina look" is kinda "all or nothing". You're out there somewhere in the middle now.

I hear what your sayin, I just hate primered cars/trucks. I wouldn't re-spray the interior, but it looks ratty as hell, not even cool ratty just nasty-dirty-fugly. I'm going to tackle it with a gallon of simple green, backpack sprayer and a hot steam cleaner first, stand back and see what it looks like when it dries, but I get your point. I almost left the resprayed semi flat black wheels ( just the cleaned og look) but it gave it a " I don't care about it and the hub caps fell off anyway" look. I like the aged paint, but hated the rest of the stuff I repainted. It gave me the abandoned truck feeling. Mabey I will start a new trend-crappy sheetmetal with nice emblems, wheels and nice interior? lol Its probobly been done a thousand times. I do agree that the whole wheel painted body color looks too bubble gum/hip hop/Christina Agulara vs. Patina fugulara and I'm hoping the look will tone down when the caps are painted and installed. Chrome bullet wheel center caps and chrome lugs are cool, but again too much aqua I think.
    Thanks for all the input!

  5. Thought about faking the patina on the wheels? Making them match the truck closer?

Any way you go, its a cool truck and its cool that you're fixing it up. Hard to argue with a guy who is making his truck better every step he takes.

i would say, mask off the interior, scuff it with a red scotch brite pad and rattle can the entire thing in white. That would give the inside a fresh look and match the newly painted white pieces on the outside

    Cool truck,

I think the black wheels looked WAY better.

I would paint the wheels black again, clean up the interior, and drive it as is.

Even if youre going to sell it theres a bunch of people who like the rough and rugged old truck look.

PS.. I kinda miss the 'soccer' sticker on the back bumper ;)

Harrison---you don't know how happy it makes me that you are at my Mom's house, using her device :)

dubie--- The thought " red neck in a cloud" comes to mind hahaha!

1952Sreamliner--- I too am on the fence on the wheels. Black had attitude, but made it look rattier than it is if that makes sense. I found the missing 4th cap and painting them white and will see if that tones down the look, otherwise back to black and mabey chrome lugs and a "through the wheel" chrome center cap? Hilarious you noticed the AYSO Soccer sticker. The cab glass had a ton of decals and stickers everywhere!

I painted the entire interior of my 56 with 3 rattle cans of Krylon 2 in 1 primer and paint and it looks as smooth as the factory finish. There's pictures of it before and after in my build thread

Your build looks great! I like the body color gauge against the white dash....I plan on some more cleaning ( with a scotch brite) and most likely re-spray using your technique, it looks killer!

Thanks man, I was amazed at the difference an hours worth of work made to the look.
I use the Krylon 2 in 1 paint and primer because as far as a rattle can, it yields the best results with less coats, and it's tough stuff too!!! Their satin black is a perfect match for factory engine bay black.

So, you thinking white would look better than an almond or a light gold mist/fawn or silver green mist....all in satin?

That's up to you bud, it's your truck. I would paint the interior to match the freshly painted parts on the exterior.

I wish I had taken some before pic's, but you get the idea...old rusty dusty p.o.s. looking parked under a tree interior and engine compartment.
I plan on sanding it down and painting the interior this weekend, but leaving the engine.

Spent the weekend , cleaning, sanding and painting. Came out really nice! Crappy cell phone pics but you get the idea.
Had white letter tires ground and I tossed them on Saturday, the wide whites that were on it were old bias plys and no bueno at 60 mph 70 miles round trip every day.

    Looks good man.

I would love to have a truck just like this.

All I would change is I would have kept the dash two-toned and done the dark green on the upper part of the dash.

I almost two toned it! Probobly will this week and match the doors. Would you do the upper pad or center section?

I found a motor I want for the Burb, the Apache is for sale. I'm going to post it to the classifieds here shortly unless you want me to bring it to Reno? Hehe

I'm not up on truck value, was going to just drive this one while my burb was down, what do you think its worth?

Just ordered the uphoulstery for the seat and the headliner. Pre cut and sewn, comes with pad etc. the seat springs are in great shape. Just have to dig out my hog ring pliers and now I have something to look forward to doing this weekend.

HA! I'm 7 cans and a pile of newspapers into the cab on this thing plus the semi flat for the kicks, back panel and floor! I agree, the stuff lays down great and has a great spray pattern. I used 2 additional cans due to the two tone and chrome moulding look on the door panels. For $60 in spray bombs, I would do it again on another project for sure. It really does change the "feel" of the truck for the better.

Thanks, its a nice driver. My plan WAS to drive it while I had my 50 Burb torn down, but I found a motor I have to have and install when the 4 inch drop, 700r4 and rear diff are installed, so its up for sale earlier than I expected it to be.

Sold the Apache. Its going to be a couple weeks before both of our schedules permit meeting to drop it with the new owner. He is having me do a couple things while I have it. Tear the 2 stacked sheets of plywood off the og bed floor , remove the old bed floor, cut out new ply and have it line x'ed. Paint the motor but leave the inner fenders alone. Install new hoses and tune up parts. Today was a long one.

Resprayed the exhaust manifold, beadblasted the valve cover and resprayed it too. way better. Installed the seat cover on the seat frame, used cotton batting against burlap on the back and 2 inch medium dense foam on burlap for the bottom. Looks great and feels awsome.

that is a beautiful ride. Whoever bought that truck just got an awesome deal. i would drive that just like it is until my daughter was driving and give it to her. she's only 10, so i would be driving it for a few more years...

I kinda have " EBAYers remorse". I posted it and it sold with "buy it now" in 2 hrs. We agreed if the buy it now was used that I would fix the bed wood ( plywood install with line x) install the seat cover and clean up the engine area. Its a sweet runner, but was only going to be my driver while I tear down the 50 Suburban, then sell it.....well I found this cool engine for the Burb and up went the Apache. It will just give me a kick in the but to get the engine/trans/rr end/drop axle etc installed on the burb!

Installed the pleated headliner that came with the pre-sewn seat covers at lunch today. Marked center front and rear edge of the liner and the cab, spray glued (wolf industrial heat resistant) the roof opening and the liner leaving 2 inches of wiggle room. Centered the liner, pressed it up, worked it from center to left and right. Cut excess back leaving an inch or so to tuck in. ran a plastic bone around it to tuck it in and then trimmed it with some metal edge gaurd. pic's suck from the cell phone, but you get the idea. It looks GREAt with the new pleated seat!
