Anyone know where I can get a new temp and oil sender for a 52 Olds. Putting a 52 cluster in an A and need the senders for the gauges. Also, anyone know what ohm resisitance the gas sender was? And I do know that these were 6 volt which is ok.
The temp senders are RARE. Every so often they show up on the auction site, NOS. But they go for big bucks, count on around $120 for a temp sending unit. The 52 and earlier Buick, Caddy, Olds and Pontiac are the same. They are all 6 volt, pipe thread. Rock Auto doesn't carry them, nor did any other place I checked with, when I wanted a temp sender. Oil pressure senders, about the same issue...Ohms???? can't help you there. Remember, don't use pipe sealing tape around the treads when you do find some and install them. The threads need to make contact with the block to make the electrical circuit. HellRaiser
Try www.collectorautosupply.com 1-888-772-7848 they show that they have a temp sender $110....part #1511734 HellRaiser
I did this same thing with an "A" except I used a 49-50 cluster. I think the actual gauge guts are the same. You will most likely not find a sender. Contact http://www.williamsons.com/ it will be best to call them. (479)369-2551 They are open Mon-Fri 8 to 5 CST. He can fix you up. Remind him he converted the '49 Olds cluster for Bob Bush. He converted my gauges to 12 volt. The ohms for the tank sender will be 0-30 ohms. They are real honest Christian people and did my gauges in a professional way. We had a real time finding the right combination but they all work fine now. He also converted my box type Sun tach to eliminate the batteries.
before you give up, try NAPA. If they have the right guy behind the counter, it is amazing what they can source. believe me, I know. GM stuff is the easiest to find.
Bob: I just spoke to Ron and mentioned your name. I told him you spoke very highly of him and his work. He appreciated the cudos! Thanks for the tip !
