I searched through the forum and can not find the answer to my question. I have a 32 grill shell chopped 2in. on model a rails. What radiator should i use i can't afford the chopped 32 rad. I heard 65-66 V8 radiator works. Any suggestions?
I have a new '66 Mustang V8 three row copper/brass radiator in my '36. Engine is a 472 Cad. This turns out to be a poor, poor, poor combination. It'll keep the engine around 210, but traffic, idling at a light, whatever temp it climbs to, the radiator can't recover and it stays wherever. 220, 230, you get the idea. My grill shell is sectioned 9", I don't have room for any larger radiator. You probaby have more space for a taller radiator. It won't cool a big block. A Ford 5000 tractor radiator will maybe fit behind your grill shell, but not knowing the dimensions you have, I won't say for sure. They are about 25" tall, compared to the Mustangs 21". Just google "Ford tractor radiator", tons of sites come up, they're anywhere from 150 to 300, available with trans coolers and several guys recommended them to me, but I can't fit one. Maybe you can. The one I have won't keep a big inch engine cool. An overheating car isn't much fun. The Mustang raditor doesn't cool 500 CID very well? I'm going with an aluminum, 2 row Mustang, which fits my radiator support. The stock Mustang isn't enough for a big inch engine. Brian Did I mention that a stock Mustang radiator won't cool a large displancement, 400+ hp engine?
HAHA ok. Im running a sbc in mine so hopefully the mustang can cool it properly. So what kinda engine are you running? haha. Im only sectioning my grill 2-3 inches so hopefully i can get it to fit
if you turn the mustang radiator upside down, it fits the 32 shell better. dont cut the grille shell until you get a radiator! I've used a 3 row v8 radiator in a buncha model a's.. never had an overheating problem.... a mild small block should be fine, 500 cubic inches might be pushing its limits though!!
