Hey guys I'm still doing all of the mock up work on my 32/34 Ford Pickup project. I have the cab and bed mounted and I set the SBC motor mounts up in the specified location for my new Pete and Jake's 32 frame. My issue is that so much of my trans is inside the cab (350 with an NV3500). I am going to cut the motor mounts back off of the frame and move the engine forward another 2-3 inches. I have my grill shell and radiator already mounted and the electric fan that I'll be using. I need to swap my water pump and pulleys though before moving the engine so I know my clearances are proper.

Right now I have a long style water pump on the engine so swapping to a short pump is obviously step 1. But pulley selection is next. I'm only running a crank/alternator/and water pump pulley. So I would ***ume a single v-belt should suffice. Can I get a single v-belt crank pulley somewhere? Where would I also be able to get the correct water pump and alternator pulleys to match? Not looking for underdrives. I'm guessing I may need to change my alternator mounting position as well but not sure yet.

I tried searching through Summit and Speedway but didn't see any single belt crank pulleys. Thanks for any help.

Go to www.agcbracket.com. Alan Grove sells all sorts of stock Chevy pulleys and bracket kits and will have what you need. His stuff is plain steel and reasonable prices. I learned years ago that used pulleys even after you spend the time to clean and paint them are sometimes worn out.

Speedway and Summit both have single groove pullys for the SBC. In chrome or aluminum .

Take a look at Zip's hi rise pump which mounts a Chev 6 pump on a higher centerline. It fits tight and puts a fan in the center of the radiator. They also make a BBC model, which can be adapted to a hemi. It's a very nice piece, which I have run on my Willys very successfully for years. Can't remember if the instructions list matching lower pulley or not.

  7. You can get everything you are looking for from your favorite catalog speed shop or if you are good at scrounging at the local wrecking yard/you pull it. If you opt to go the used pulley route get everything from the same engine if at all possible.

These days it is difficult to fine a single throw pulley at a wrecking yard because most of what you are going to find is going to have power steering at the very least, but that is your call I suppose.

  8. believe it or not... Chevy had short water pumps/single water pump pulley/single crankshaft pulley and single grooved alternators on many cars in the 60's. sometimes you can find them at junkyards , swapmeets or under your buddies workbench..... i know i have a few laying around , not an offer to sell. when i see them cheap i grab them

By S10 trans I ***ume T5? I'm not interested in running a T5 behind a 350 or 383 as I don't think it'll hold the power. I'll check out the sites listed above. I'm running an electric fan so water pump height isn't an issue.
The balancer size doesn't need to be smaller for a shirt style water pump does it??

You could use a world cl*** Camaro T5 with an S10 shifter housing and it would handle your horsepower needs.. I still think it would be easier than trying to use that mammoth NV 3500...

Sorry I meant the thickness of the balancer not the diameter.

You might think about a s-10 transmission, which is smaller, when you start pushing 2-3 inches forward on a Deuce frame you are going to create a lot of problems

What kinds of problems? I spoke with Jason over at Pete and Jakes and he saw no problem moving it forward.

How much smaller is the bellhousing on a T5? I'm really concerned with the durability behind 400 hp.

The non world-cl*** t5 will hold up "ok" with the occasional beat down, and a world-cl*** can handle much more.
I'm speaking from experience as i have a non w-c Camaro t5 behind a 6-71 blown 327 that makes well over 500hp in my 32.
I have broken it twice and will be looking for a better w/c unit soon, which i know will handle it in a light weight car. (Until i can afford a Tremic)
But the non will actually work if you're not abusing the **** out of it ALL the time.
I even have a good friend with a non HAMB friendly fox body Mustang running 11.20's with a w/c box and he hasent hurt it yet.

As for pulleys, early 60's impala small block stuff is all i ever use. Short pump and single groove pulleys.

I got my alt bracket setup from a 69 chevy truck, the lower mount bolts to the front of the head, used an aluminum crank pulley{ which I painted} and found a short pump pulley at the swap meet that the chrome was bad( blasted and painted) paid less than $40 for everything

Moving the engine forward 2-3 inches even with a short water pump you will be awful close to the radiator, that will probably interfere with centering the fan in the radiator. HRP

  19. 2"-3" forward? How far is it set back into the fire wall now?
Moving the engine down, then getting a water pump riser is the standard way of doing this stuff.

Back of Distributor cap to short pump pulley face is 28"
