The car is a 55 Ford 2 Dr. sedan. The seat was out for recovering a few years ago. When I screwed it back in, the seat wants to slide when it shouldnt. I have had the seat tracks off, cleaned and lubricated, on the bench they work fine. When in the car, the right one continues to slip. The spring has been replaced, the pull rod is not pulling. Whats next???
Check to see that they are not bending under pressure. My wife's car has that issue. You have to get out of the car for the seats to lock...sitting in it they won't.
I had a seat once that did this and I found that when the adio installer put my amplifier under it it was hitting something under there and wouldnt let it lock in place...maybe the carpet or something is doing the same thing in your case?
Update; I hope I have solved the problem. When the upholstery guy redid the seat, the pivot points for the seat back must have been cracked, because he brazed in a gusset on each side. I put a flat washer between the adjuster and the seat on the rear studs, then two flat washers between the adjuster and the floor on the rear only, and made sure there was no carpet caught between the floor and the seat to warp things. I have not yet driven it, but it seems to hold now.
