Hey guys I started all the mock up on my 32 pickup this past week. It's a new Pete and Jakes 32 frame with their I-beam front end and coilovers in the rear. I'm running a 350 motor and will most likely be channeling the body over the frame enough to cover the rails.

I picked up an NV3500 trans a few years back with the intent to use it on this project but now I'm wondering if a T5 would be a better way to go. Both are hydraulic clutch setups I believe. After pulling the NV3500 out of my attic yesterday I'm just looking at the monster sized bellhousing and wondering if something smaller would be a better option. Does anyone know how much smaller the T5 setup would be compared to the NV3500 or have any other opinions on either trans? One thing I know I'll have to overcome with the NV3500 is the electronic speedo output.

I have a NV in my 48 Ford and the slave cyl mounting point is really close to the ground, I would do a T5 next time and yes the speed-O is an issue also

I will be using a NV3500 in my 40 pickup build. The rear mount is the same dim as a T400, so you can think of it in those terms of size. I also plan to use a cable instead of hydraulic. SW has an electronic speedo.

Doesn't the NV3500 have a really high ratio low gear (granny-like)? Probably be a pretty useless gear in a light pickup, plus with the size of it and you planning on channeling you could end up with a Quaismodo hump in the floor.

I believe if the NV came out of a Blazer it doesn't have the super low granny gear in first. I was told mine is from a Blazer but don't know how to confirm it without cracking it open.

I guess I'm going to try bolting the 3500 up tomorrow if I have time since I already have it here and sit the cab over it just to see what I'm dealing with.

How much smaller is the T5 though?

believe nv 3500's are becoming obsolete for rebuild parts. check with a big rebuilder . t5 is my suggestion:eek:

You may be thinking of the NV4500, usually found in 3/4 ton HD trucks. To the OP, be advised that there are several distinct variations of the NV3500 and you need to know exactly which one you have before ordering service parts.
