This is the Grandpa' Car. Not the best pic, but you get the idea.... The car is going to have a 2-tone paintjob, the upper body above the trim line (where the line of holes are) will be teal, and below the trim it will be silver- much like the dashboard pic. I do not want to run the chevy style hubcaps, or the Moon style "pizza pan" wheel covers, I'd prefer spider caps and inner/outer trim rings. Probably going to ditch the current tires and use wide white walls as well. The steel wheels are currently that original finish semi-gloss black, which, in my mind's eye, will not work. I don't think silver or teal will be successful either... Using the selected colors and layout, can someone out there help me figure what color will work best on my wheels? Thanks dv
i would try the teal since the bottom is going to silver, it'll bring it together nicely. just my .02
If you absolutely are set on spidercaps, I think you'll need to stick to one of the two colors. A third color will only make the car look gawdy...you'll have too much going on and it will be too distracting. Less is more...meaning, minimalize the hnumber of colors by NOT adding a third. I also think teal in the wheels would be too disjointed from the teal on the top and the car wouldn't flow very well. You don't want distraction, you want subtlety. I have an idea, but would have to mock it up in Photoshop to be sure on how it looks. I say do the wheels in the silver and at the ridge of the wheel were the hubcap outer edge usually sits, paint a thin pinstripe of teal, or possibly something in the Von Dutch style where you have a white pinstripe (borrowed from your wide whitewalls) intertwining with the teal pinstripe. Just an accent of color hinting at the top body color. Besides, I've always thought that gray/silver steelies with chrome accents look cool. Otherwise, silver is your best answer...IMO. Mock it up on the computer...this IS the digital age afterall. Good luck...
'cause Martha don't build customs, man..... and I don't have the computer skills to manipulate my photos, so, I thought I'd get some input from other hot rod folks. I'm not asking anyone to paint my wheels for me, or pick the color for me, I'm looking for suggestions, you know, like bouncing ideas off your buddies when you're grab-assing in the garage....
i'd go black on the wheels woth rings and spiders an d i like the colors of the dash. maybe find some buick trim to split the 2tone but put the lighter color up top
I'm currently in love with this car, but not sure about doing a similar wheel idea (silver instead of cream), or going with the teal on the wheels. Besides, with the silver below the trim line, I don't want to end up looking like I'm wearing all black sneakers with a pair of white pants..... only in cars... dv
Do chrome steelies with spider caps, with the centers of the wheels around the lug nuts painted teal.
I would have made the wheels look better and put the seam on the skirt, but this is a quick and dirty comp...
Excuse me for asking. but have you considered breaking up your 2-tone with a different side trim treatment? Something like '58 Ford Custom (see link) would look great with what you've got planned. JMTC http://www.hubcapcafe.com/ocs/pages01/ford5805.htm
Buzz, I just got some '49 trim - needs a little straightening and polishing, but it's complete. Fidgiter - your suggestion is interesting, one of those things I hadn't considered.... sko - I'd thought of black, but EVERYONE has black wheels with wide whites - although it does look pretty good.... dv
Fidgiter and fuel pump, I found this photo on the HAMB - of a shoebox ford of all things - with the painted center chromies, not exactly my color, but close enough. I think this looks GREAT!! Good suggestion!!
I agree with the painted center steelies, nice. if not, that blue from the dash would pop well with some wide whites with chrome spiders. I think you're up to $0.36, not bad.
black is clean. or you could go o.c. yep over chrome. chrome steelies spider caps, inner and outer trim rings. yep over crome.
