Hot Rods Help

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by billshotrodstuff, Aug 16, 2011.

  1. Hey guys, this is my first time here and I need some help. I recently bought a fiberglass 32 Ford roadster hot rod. Ford 8 inch in rear, straight axle in front. Looks good, handles great. Problem is BRAKES. The front axle has drum assemblies so old that the backing plate are using pivot pin shoes, two leading, not self energizing, and it doesn't stop worth a darn. I need to identify this axle in order to upgraed to discs, or at least some decent drum brakes. The axle is an "I Beam" style, about a 4 in. drop, integral spring perches on top, and is 51 1/2 inches center to center on the kin-pins. I have pictures that I can e-mail, please bear with me and help me, this is my first time.

    Thank you very much

    Bill

Most guys on here would be pulling off the disks to put that style of drum brakes back on as this site is all about traditional hot rods and not about converting them to the newer style stuff even if it does stop better.

The best thing to do might be to take a couple of photos of the back side of the spindle so someone can tell what spindle you have and then maybe one of us can help figure it out.
