Is anyone familiar with helper springs for late 30's fords? Front axle, two weird looking leaf-springs, one for each side. They're kind of shaped like a curly waxed mustache. I'm not totally sure of how they're supposed to go on, and neither are the people I bought them from, though they do claim they came off of a late 30's Ford! Mine is a 39 Deluxe. (My 3rd leaf up was broken, so I replaced it, but with a leaf which is a few inches too short, which puts more stress on the bottom two leaves. The bottom two are now sagging a bit, out at the ends. The helper springs should alleviate this...) Anyway, any help or pictures or whatnot would be appreciated! Thanks.

You need to spend your money on the correct main spring leaf & forget the patches & auxiliary stuff.

Well, that makes sense, in a certain way, and I realize that would be -A- good approach, but the initial question still remains. I do really want to know how these springs were designed to work...

One of the reasons for building a car like this, the way I see it, is that I come up with my own solutions, work through them, trying to strike a balance between innovation and tradition, without someone there saying, "that's wrong, do it this way instead." If it turns out an idea really is wrong, I'll see that, once the time comes.
