Need to rewatch cars 1 & 2 before seeing the new one. Now we have some grandsons so we won't be the only ones there without kids!

Jay, you are one of the HAMB treasures, Lord knows you have contributed as much great content as anybody! Thanks for hanging in there so long. For us long-time NASCAR fans, it is obvious that you get it, the Roundy Round is in your blood. You know that Smokey and Junior are Page-One Hall of Famers; so refreshing for these movies to reflect the stock car racing soul, and we have you to thank for that.

OK, so this is a full-blown Jay Ward Love Fest . . . next!

  6. I saw CARS for the first time when I was single, no kids. I'm married with 3 kids and I couldn't wait to watch CARS with my kids when they got old enough to enjoy it.

Well, my 6 yr old daughter and 3 yr old son have seen cars enough to quote the entire movie, and my son's toys and wardrobe all have elements of Mater, Lightning McQueen and the others.

I'm trying to get a buch of Hot Rods and Kustoms to show up at the Coyote Drive-in here in Fort Worth for the premiere. If you're in the area, come on out and join us June 16!

  7. So ... a couple of months ago, I had the pleasure of attending @Jive-Bomber Jay's "talk" at the Blackhawk Museum regarding the very subject of this thread ... i.e., the "LEGENDS" characters in P I X A R's "CARS 3":

    the Legends.jpg
Left to Right: Smokey (based on Smokey Yunick), a 1947 Hudson pickup truck
River Scott (based on Wendell Scott), a late 30s dirt track car
Junior “Midnight” Moon (based on Junior Johnson), a 1940 Ford Standard Coupe moonshine car
Louise “Barnstormer” Nash (based on Louise Smith), a 1950 Nash Ambassador.

Here's a few pics of Jay's "talk" that were posted on the Blackhawk Museums' fb logo.jpg page:

... and a few of my iPhone snapshots (taken both inside & outside the museum):

Jay was actually a bit of a celebrity that day ... after his "talk", there was a L O N G line of folks waiting to get his autograph:

The museum staff filmed Jay's entire "talk" ... and I was told the video would be uploaded to the Blackhawk Museums Speaker Series vimeo.png album in a few weeks ... but Jay's speech never showed up on the site :(

    However, here's a short YouTube logo.JPG clip of a portion Jay's Q&A session:

I love how the hudson pickup is identical to the truck it was modeled after in real life!

  9. Jay, you're definately the best man for this job!

  10. When the first Cars movie came out I was told the cars depicted were pretty realistic but the person telling me had no idea of what sounds they should have made. I was expecting some dubbed-in V8 or F1 sounds for everything – what a surprise! The sounds of the Hudson and Porsche were dead on, as were the others, and this so different from the soundtracks of other movies. A huge THANK YOU just for that alone, and for the rest of the movie of course. Got to get Cars 3 for my collection.

  11. @Jive-Bomber Jay -

I meant to ask you at the Blackhawk Museum ... Am I correct in assuming that the '55 Chrysler C300 in this scene:

Leroy Heming out in front of Doc Hudson.jpg
Doc Hudson & Leroy Heming (1).jpg
    Leroy Heming ('55 Chrysler C 300).jpg

... was modeled after the Kiekhaefer C300 that Tim Flock ran at the Langhorne (Pennsylvania) Speedway? :

I saved this to watch at a quiet time and I'm glad I did. Now I can put a face to name and know a little bit more about Jay! I went to see 3 with Reese (10yr. grandson) and I know we both enjoyed it, although possibly for different reasons. He for the story, me for the amazing accuracy of the vehicles (maybe not so much the stunts)! As we were getting ready to leave, I saw your name and told him, "I know that guy." Well, kinda, sorta. It's always great fun to watch a car guy light up when they talk or are asked about their passion of the things we call automobiles. Thank You for sharing this, did you get his autograph?!

  13. No ... I suppose I should have ... but like you, I kinda felt like I knew him (through his posts here on the H.A.M.B. & TJJ, on Instagram, and on Facebook) and consider him just another "friend" / fellow hot rodder (vice a celebrity) ... so I just introduced myself (as Todd Olson, "HEMI32" on the H.A.M.B.) and only had time for very brief conversation ... as he had to head-out to the Sonoma Raceway NASCAR races since Disney / PIXAR's "CARS 3" was sponsoring Clint Bowyer's car that weekend:
