I've suc***bed to peer pressure and bought steel wheels, which I painted body color the other day, and big and little tires for the roadster to switch up with the Dayton knock-off wires. Not going fully true to period, the tires are radials, not bias ply because they drive and handle so much better, and, I like them. I have beauty rings, chrome dog dish hubcaps and/or chrome lug nuts. The paint is so pretty I kinda don't want to scratch up the wheel putting the baby moons on. The main reason for switching the wheel/tire combo up is that the wires (which I like) require tubes, and many tire stores are hesitant to mount and dismount them. That, and a can of "Fix-A-Flat" won't and a plug won't fix them, and there's no room for a spare. We're taking the car to Florida with us this winter, I don't want tire trouble, and if I do, I can deal with it with the above and/or a call to Hagerty for roadside ***ist. Along with the hood, it will look like a totally different car with these.
Yeah, it's still a good looking car, but me like'um the wires better! Just looks like 98.37568429% of the others out there now.
Brian, Your roadster looks great, what brand and size tires did you install. When I went from bias ply to radial on my roadster it made a huge improvement. Ron
They're 175/55R15's up front, 235/75R15's on the rear. Achilles is the brand on the fronts, the rears are whatever Belle Tire had that was less than Michelon. The wires have 205/60's on the fronts, I thought they looked to big. Both sets drive really nicely.
The wheel/tire that ended up on the right front shucked a wheel weight when I unloaded the tires from the truck. I bounced it on the driveway, as one does, and the weight fell off. Never had that happen, and I couldn't find a scar in the paint on the rim to put it back on. Back to Belle Tire today to re-balance it...
