If the Desoto with the Hemi is the goal and your OK with it not being capable of spinning the tires, short of dumping 10 g in the Hemi, go for it. I just wanted to make known what to expect.

    They are pretty cool cars.

Make sure all the trim pieces are there and in good condition, replacing missing or broken trim pieces would be an exhaustive and expensive experience. Rare cars means parts are rare as well.

I'd go for it. Long range planning: It has a 2 speed PowerFlite ******, an adaptor & 3 speed TorqueFlite would help drivability. Also the low deck engine is advertised at 7.5:1, but that is probably optimistic. putting 10:1 pistons in would help. Hemis aren't cheap to do, but a lot depends on what you can/can't do & how much you spend on useless bling.

Also, consider that a 392 would be a direct swap if you wanted more grunt. The old PF may not appreciate it though....:p

Any of the Chryslers, or high deck DeSoto or Dodge would be an improvement....
