I've found a 55 Dodge Hemi that was running when it was removed from the car. The dizzy is the dual point type and is pretty bad. I'm rebuilding a 331 hemi and it needs a dist. Are they they the same? I'll look for a new electronic type for the 331 and maybe I can run it in the Dodge while I'm rebuilding the 331. The Dodge has a 727 tranmission and an adapter that I plan on getting rid of. I'm running a four speed Chev in the roadster.
An LA dizzy will bolt right into the Dodge. The 331 takes a longer int. shaft to meet the LA Dizzy, or you have to cut & lenthen the dizzy shaft of the LA to reach the OEM Int shaft. Put "Hemi Tech Index" in Search & start reading.
You can use a small block MOPAR dist, electronic or point type in the 241 and 270 Dodge Hemi's without an adapter, the 331 will have to have an adapter or dist made for it.
Hey David! Where he said it was a '55 I didn't mention Low Deck Block Dodges are the bolt in LA type.
As I read it, the question he is asking is will the '55 Dodge hemi dizzy fit a 331 Chrysler, not what will fit the Dodge hemi? Or is he asking if the 331 dizzy will fit the Dodge? Or am I mis-understanding the question? Maybe the O/P can clarify?
I plan on picking up the Dodge Hemi which is running and use it until I have the 331 finished the way I want it and pull the Dodge and stick in the Chrysler 331. The 331 is flattening my bank account. Since I need a dist for the 331 I thought I might be able to buy a new one for the Dodge and pull it when the 331 is finished.
OK, yes, you can pull the 270 dizzy & lenthen the shaft & put it in the 331. or..buy/make a longer int shaft & not lenthen the dizzy shaft. Your choice. If you buy the longer int shaft & your unaltered 270 dizzy takes a dump out of town you just go to the parts house and buy a points 318/340 dizzy & put it in.
I am using a magneto from a tall deck 392" Chrysler in my 241" Dodge motor. I just had to machine a spacer which sits in the distributor hole raising the distributor up approx. .750" I'm utilizing the stock 241" intermediate shaft also. Works like a charm.
