Quit buyin motors and get a damn running rod on the road bud. I need cruizin partners! (yankin on yer chain so don't get all bent) Scott later detonator
Yeah yeah yeah, I'm workin' on it man...plans are for this POS thing to be seaworthy by '07 (get it, seaworthy...man, lame plymouth references)...provided everything goes well with the floors/ch***is/etc. everything else should be smooth from there since the entire suspension and steering and brakes setup are already rebuilt and ready to install from the previous project...and midway through that last sentence my new ring and pinion gears just showed up via UPS...the only questionable thing about this car is the shape of the frame and body supports and the amount of time it'll take to fab anything other than floors should it be rotted out too badly...hopefully she'll be nose high and scarin' little kids next year, and possibly headed to the HAMB drags '07 for it's first major breakdown, hahaha...
I've got a 330. Most of the decent sites are already listed above. Hot Heads is probably the most knowledgable and their prices are "fair". It cost me $3000 in parts and machining to rebuild mine last year. Mostly stock.
Aren't 330's a bit higher priced than their more common chrysler counterparts? As far as machining goes I can get by pretty well through people I know, and I doubt I'm going overboard on replacing things such as the crank and rods unless there's a problem found after crack-checking them...the most money I could see myself spending anything on is the heads and valvetrain and then the transmission and adapter (which I don't consider part of the engine cost)...just after browsing through Egge and hothemiheads I'm thinking parts and machining/magnafluxing are going to run me about 2 grand...which over the course of a year who knows, maybe I'll throw a lot more into it as time goes on...I'm not looking for a 600hp monster, anything over 350hp at the crank is more than enough for now, and from what I've read so far they're quite capable of that as a stock setup with little coaxing...but I've still got a lot of research to do, so maybe I'm just being overzealous...
One of my 354 Industrials has Venolia pistons, Clay smith cam and a 6-71....most you will find are simple p***. car engines used in a variety of applications. Most "true" industrials gave out years ago....
Early Chrysler IND's had early p***. style front covers with the extra holes...you can use the early front cover. SOME IND's had gear drive fronts like marine engines...but I've never seen one in person. All I've seen had regular snouts on their cranks. Don't pay attention to the ID BS in the PAW catalog....it'll scare you off...
the industrial engine are not that much different. I say if its a hemi and most of its there,300 bucks is dirt cheap! R.R.
$300 bucks is cheap for a rebuildable block... The parts aren't any more expensive just harder to find, PAW has nothing for Desoto...
well...we don't need to discuss industrial engines anymore since I'm too late in picking those up...but the good news is I can still throw that 331 in the g***er and run that...once that hemi book shows up I can decide on what I want to do to the motor (ie. stroking, boring, intakes, head work, etc.)...shouldn't be too hard to get 350+hp, and I know I don't have the bank to pull 500+ out of it yet, but there is that potential there, and I like that a lot...plus, this surprisingly is almost half the cost of the same amount of power from my 400cu. in. B block dodge motor, and twice as cool...
