I hope this isn't the wrong forum,so dont chew my *** too hard. I'm looking for someone that can straighten up some Chrysler FirePower Hemi valve covers.I have a couple of sets that aren't too bad at all. I dont want to do this myself,as I dont know how to "work" sheet metal. I can provide a junk Hemi head to check covers for flatness.I plan on chroming the covers,so they do need to be pretty straight but not perfect. Maybe someone in the local L.A. / Long Beach can help. BTW,,,these are for the historical race car reproduction in my avatar. Thanks, TC
Heres my goal within the next year or so. No burnouts or runs.Just idle & a whack of the throttle now & then. Thanks again.
If your covers are dinged up a little, bring them to a good plating shop and have them do the straightening. Experienced chrome platers are absolute masters at straightening out sheetmetal, stainless, pot metal, you name it. The production/fly by night platers are just going to bang the dings out and chrome them (look like ****) but a good plating shop will make them mirror straight before plating, and if all the dents can't be taken out, they will be able to fill in the imperfections with silver solder and copper. I worked in a plating shop for a couple years and I promise you that trying to straighten them out yourself or having someone else do it will NOT make the plating job any cheaper. Platers want to do that stuff themselves and sometimes trying to "prep" the parts yourself only makes it harder for the chromer.
Great,,thanks.I already started working on one & I stopped for that very reason. Time to find a good chrome shop in L.A. I guess.
