Anyone have any pics of any Hemi Sidewinder rear engine chain driven dragster pics/Info??? Tall order, but I'm just curious as a guy my father and I know is restoring one and was talking about it last night but I've never seen any pictures of any.... and Spike, you keep your mouth shut because apparently you know the guy too...haha. Id be stoked to see pictures of the one he is restoring in action. in the NJ area so I'm sure there weren't many of em' back in the day.
Lowell Lister - Crossfire - early '60s? If this is the one there are pictures and a video at www.joejacono.com
i think joe maillard (sp) is the one that had something to do with ed roth.....might do a search on here....as it was mentioned once before....with pictures....brandon
If it's the one that raced at Dover, in New York I have a shot of it in the pits. I think there is a feature in one of the little page magazines. Was it from Massachusetts originally?
thanks!!i searched for it in 1 word and only came back with 1 comment on 1 post thanks! helpful. Ill have to get the name of the guy that ran this particular one, Spike? you out there i know you know the details too.
Desoto Hemi powered rear engine chain driven dragster was built approx. 1963-64 by Jim & Don Seivenpiper, S&M Speed Shop in Alden, NY. The car had a 304 c.i. Desoto Hemi engine and ran A/FD. Best time 8.5, low 180's. Have some pics & article.
Are you referring to Joe Maillard's Sidewinder driven by Jack Chrisman? Or the later magwinder he built?
Surely Caffeine has found his info 3+ years later....but for others, this is the one.... Art Malone's Sidewinder.....1970.
Mojo, I just joined this forum, don't know how to enter pics yet. If you'll pass along your email address I'm sure my son can load them into an email. I'm not the most computer literate old gearhead that ever rolled down the track. Used to hang around the Sievenpipers shop and travel with them as a green kid, pushed the car around the pits and generally got in the way.
I picked up that magazine a while back. Very interesting build... he drilled a hole through the block to run the axle shaft through, right above the cam.
I restored one of the S&M dragsters a few years ago called the Gibson/Gill Special. Don is in the Atlanta area and Jim is still in Alden NY. Whe I went up to Jim's the first time about 6-7 yrs ago, he said that he had just trashed the mold to the old sidewinder body ( which he was using to feed his cows). I'm pretty sure the article is in one of the 1965 HotRod mags. Mike
