I am using a early ford three speed with a extended bellhousing 331. What is commonly used for a slave cylinder for the clutch? I have a plate that mounts to the bolts on the top cover of the transmission and a old slave cylinder that bolts to the bottom of this plate.. It uses a rod that goes to the clutch rod on the transmission.
I am having problems with the slave cylinder and a wondering if there is a replacement available.

    Thanks

I have an excellent used Ford slave cylinder. I took it apart to check condition and it is great. $20. Pics posted if interested.

I don't think it is the same . I can't find it anyway. I found what I think I had on RockAuto. It is sure cheaper and new.
I think your problem may be you have it turned sideways and the bleed screw ended up down. I show a pic of the RockAuto part. The mounting holes are up which should help.

Why not just rebuild what you have, Run a wheel cyl hone thru it and if there is no pitting put a new rubber cup in it when you put it back together and it will be like new

  7. Does it have a casting number?

like @Moriarity said. If it’s not pitted bad, measure the bore and replace the rubber seal.

Try an early Dodge truck clutch slave cylinder - 63-65 should do it -it has the bolts in line with the plunger. Just changed mine out last month.

I am wondering if some of my problem is that I need some sort of check valve in the system. It seen like I need to do one or two strokes on the pedal before it moves the slave cylinder

I don’t think you can properly bleed the system with the cylinder mounted on it’s side. The bleed port is too low. You could mount the cylinder I sent upright.
You run a test by unbolting the cylinder an tilting it so the bleed port is as high as you can get it and bleed it in that position. Reattach and see if it works.
