Careful that doesn't tip over on you. Happened to a friend; He tried to catch it with disastrous results.
This stand is an old skool HD Lakewood. Been on this stand for 6 months and moved around quite a bit. Before that it held a BBC. I see everyone’s point and appreciate the concern. I’ll look into a 4 legger this week.
Congrats on getting the right engine for your job My forever enemy is gravitational pull. When that beast is hooked up to the pavement, gravity takes a back seat.
The guy finally gets a REAL hemi and all you guys can do is complain about the stand it's on. What's happening to this place? Geez. To the O/P. Congratulations on getting your engine.
The greatest risk to tipping is once it's rotated 90°, then both heads are off to one side and it will tip. Great engine choice, let me know if you have any questions, I've built a few over the years. ~Peter
Agree on rotating the motor. Those heads are heavy. However the motor is primed with oil and ready for my next project.
I do need some suggestions. Thinking of painting the motor industrial gray or industrial red like the intake. Comments?
When I had my 392 on my stand always had a support under the front of the motor to take the stress off the bellhousing bolts...Race Hemi Orange...Not the same as street hemi orange
I LOVE Hemis! Congrats on adding that awesome hunk to your garage. Are you going to give us some specs on it? What's it going in? Where it is going is a huge factor in what color to paint it. I like them in silver, gold or black for the 1st gen, and Hemi orange or black for the 426 variety. I don't like to see them in chevy orange or Ford blue. Here is a picture of mine in black:
it's easy to make a four leg stand. take a piece of tubing the same size and weld it on the one single leg. then use the one caster and put another on. easy peezy
Nothing wrong with a 3 wheeled engine stand, properly built. This one is large dia pipe, with a wide spread on the rear wheels. It's the most fun, when you get them in something with 4 wheels.
Nice score! I'm currently running a Red Ram Hemi in my Coupe and absolutely LOVE it. Great little motors. ironandsteele.com
I have Hemis and both 3 and 4 leg stands. My heaviest duty stands I made myself - all are 4 legs and that is where the resurrection of my blown 392 project is now bolted up too.
